5 Tips for Choosing an Auto Body Shop

If you have been involved in an accident and need the services of an auto body shop, you usually have a short amount of time to make a big decision. Here are a few tips to help you through the process and find the right shop for you:

  1. Reputation. Check out reviews of the body shop. Often this comes from word-of-mouth, but do take the time to read online reviews from sites like Yelp.
  2. Listen to your  insurance assessor. This may sound like a bizarre piece of advice, but no-one deals with more body shops than your insurance representative! The insurance companies have a preferred list of auto body repair facilities that they rate and recommend, and this rating is generally based on customer satisfaction. Remember, a bad customer experience translates to a customer service headache and a potential lost client for the insurance company, so take their recommendations seriously.
  3. Experience with your vehicle. Some auto body shops specialize in specific vehicle types. For instance, Art’s Bodycraft has many years of experience working on European brands such as Mercedes, BMW and Audi – this means the shop will know the tricks and intricacies of dealing with your vehicle.
  4. Customer Service. Bad customer service will usually show through in reviews and recommendations, but good customer service can only be experienced first hand. Is the shop responsive? Did they answer the phone quickly? Do you feel like you are being taken care of?
  5. Ask the right questions. It’s your car, so you must feel comfortable with the repair facility. Talk to the manager or owner, ask them about their experience, the repair process and your vehicle. Go with a shop that you feel comfortable with.
